As any keen reader will tell you, there’s something about curling up on the couch with a warm cup of tea and a good book that you just can’t beat.

But will future generations be given the chance to experience the same feeling? Well, not if e-book readers have anything to say about it. The benefits are there to see – easy to transport, unlimited storage space, adjustable font sizes and you can even read them in the dark!

But do you really get the same level of satisfaction from reading your favourite novel on a tablet as you do from a traditional hardback? The feel of the pages, the smell of the paper, the look of the cover and the joy of building up a private collection? And that’s before you even consider the joy of walking into a book shop to spend hours wistfully browsing the titles before making your purchase.

Every book has a story – not just what’s included on the pages, but where it’s been, who it will be read by next and how it came to be in your possession.

E-book readers may be here to stay, but there’s still a lot of shelf-life left in the old book yet.
